Overview

The US Navy is seeking an Oceanographer/Meteorologist to serve as a geophysical expert, focusing on meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, bathymetry, and geophysics. The role involves supporting fleet and joint operations by managing environmental data to ensure safety and effectiveness in naval operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and access to denied waters.
  • Increase the lethality of Navy forces.
  • Lead teams ranging from small units to large commands.
  • Serve as the sole geophysical expert at an operational command.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (preferably physics, oceanography, meteorology, or engineering).
  • Completion of college calculus and calculus-based physics series.
  • Eligibility to serve as a Navy Officer.
  • Ability to meet medical and fitness standards.
  • Capable of obtaining a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in data analysis and environmental science.
