Job Description

Overview

The US Navy is seeking Oceanography Officers, also known as METOC, who will serve as geophysical experts focused on understanding and applying various aspects of meteorology, oceanography, and related sciences. These officers are responsible for collecting and disseminating environmental data to support Navy operations, ensuring navigation safety, and increasing the effectiveness of naval forces.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and access to denied waters.
  • Increase the lethality and effectiveness of Navy forces.
  • Lead small deployable units and large commands.
  • Serve as the geophysical expert at operational commands.
  • Serve in challenging operational billets both at sea and ashore.

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate degree in a technical field (preferred in physics, oceanography, meteorology, or engineering).
  • Completed college calculus and physics series.
  • Ability to meet medical, vision, and fitness standards.
  • Eligibility for sea duty and Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
