Overview

The US Navy is seeking an Oceanographer/Meteorologist to serve as a geophysical expert with expertise in meteorology, oceanography, and hydrography. The role involves supporting fleet and joint operations by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating environmental data to ensure safety and operational effectiveness in various maritime contexts.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and access to denied waters.
  • Increase the lethality of Navy forces through environmental understanding.
  • Lead and manage teams of varying sizes in operational commands.
  • Serve as the geophysical expert at an operational command.

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate degree in a technical field (preferred in physics, oceanography, meteorology, or engineering).
  • Completion of calculus and calculus-based physics series.
  • Ability to meet Navy enlistment and officer standards.
  • Eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Qualified for sea duty and worldwide assignments.
