Overview

Oceanography Officers, also known as METOC, are the Navy's geophysical experts who oversee aspects of meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, bathymetry, and geophysics. Their primary mission is to ensure the U.S. Navy can operate freely and effectively in various environments, supporting fleet operations and readiness.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide timely and relevant support to fleet and joint operations
  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data
  • Ensure safety of navigation and access to denied waters
  • Lead teams ranging from small deployable units to large commands
  • Serve as the geophysical expert at an operational command

Required skills
