Job Description

Overview

The US Navy is seeking Oceanography Officers, also known as METOC, who are experts in meteorology, oceanography, and related fields. The main mission of these officers is to understand and apply geophysical concepts to ensure operational effectiveness, safety of navigation, and the success of Navy missions at sea and ashore.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data to support fleet and joint operations.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and increase the lethality of Navy forces.
  • Lead teams ranging from small detachments to large commands.
  • Serve as the primary geophysical expert at operational commands.

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate degree in a technical field (preferably in physics, oceanography, meteorology, hydrography, earth science,
  • Completion of college calculus and calculus-based physics series
  • Eligibility for sea duty and worldwide assignments
  • Ability to achieve a security clearance
