Overview

The OB Assistant at CHRISTUS Health plays a crucial role within the obstetrical team, assisting with patient care during labor and delivery. This position involves executing delegated tasks, ensuring patient safety, and supporting surgical staff throughout procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the care of obstetrical patients during labor and delivery
  • Identify safety needs and report breaks in sterile technique
  • Plan patient care with surgical team based on surgeon's preference card
  • Prepare and know the use of all surgical equipment and supplies
  • Maintain accurate counts of surgical sponges, needles, and instruments
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of the surgical team
  • Make rounds on patients to ensure comfort and safety
  • Provide personal care assistance to patients
  • Maintain patient records and charts accurately
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings
