Overview

The Nocturnist Physician Assistant role at iRecruitMD involves providing advanced clinical care to adult hospitalized patients during overnight hours, working alongside supervising hospitalist physicians and a multidisciplinary care team. The position includes managing acute medical issues and ensuring continuity of care throughout the night.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide overnight coverage for adult medical inpatients under physician supervision
  • Perform admissions, initial evaluations, and cross-cover assessments
  • Manage acute changes in patient condition and respond to rapid response or code events
  • Develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans for hospitalized patients
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, and imaging
  • Manage medications and ongoing medical therapies
  • Coordinate care with nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and consulting services
  • Communicate significant clinical changes to on-call physicians
  • Participate in discharge planning and overnight care coordination as needed
  • Provide thorough handoff communication to the daytime hospitalist team
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Support hospital quality, safety, and compliance initiatives

Required skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current national certification as an NP or PA
  • Active or eligible state licensure
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Prior hospital medicine, internal medicine, ICU, or emergency medicine experience preferred
  • Strong inpatient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage high-acuity patients with limited overnight resources
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and handoff skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with supervising physicians
