Overview

WKBT, News 8 Now in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is seeking a dynamic news anchor who will deliver multiplatform content and engage with the community. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in journalism, leadership, and community involvement, and will be actively involved in newsroom operations while mentoring early-career journalists.

Key responsibilities

  • Present news stories and digital content that is clear, engaging, and meaningful
  • Develop sources and stories within the community
  • Engage with viewers in the community and across social platforms
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating news stories
  • Work with early-career producers and reporters to help develop their skills
  • Report from the field as assigned
  • Participate in promotional activities including public appearances

Required skills

  • 1 to 3 years anchoring and reporting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field
  • Smooth and effective delivery of content for live broadcast
  • Strong, demonstrated news judgment
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills
  • Proficiency in story creation and newscast production
  • Understanding of digital/new media platforms and strategy
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
