Overview

Education Through Music Inc. is seeking a Music Teacher Intern in New York City to support music education in public schools. This role involves teaching, assisting with concerts, managing student behavior, and participating in professional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and teach music classes assigned by the Music Teacher-Mentor
  • Assist with school-wide concerts and rehearsals
  • Manage student behavior to maintain an orderly and productive learning environment
  • Record student progress towards learning goals using formal rubrics
  • Help maintain a visually engaging and organized classroom
  • Support classroom procedures and expectations set by the music teacher
  • Participate in professional development training sessions
  • Commit to growing as a culturally responsive music teacher
  • Communicate constructively with ETM and school staff
  • Create and maintain a portfolio including an observation journal

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music/Arts or related field
  • 1 year of teaching or student teaching experience
  • Knowledge of musical pedagogy practices
  • Advanced musical notation and theory literacy
  • Ability to model quality singing
  • Advanced vocal or instrumental performance capabilities (guitar, piano, or voice) preferred
  • Conducting experience preferred
