Job Description

Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) will work on the Baylor shift, specifically focusing on overnight hours at River's Edge Hospital & Clinic in Saint Peter, Minnesota. This role involves performing diagnostic laboratory procedures, maintaining quality assurance, and ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to federal and state regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures for accurate test results
  • Participate in the Laboratory's Quality Assurance Plan
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and patients
  • Manage stress and resolve conflicts
  • Perform EKGs and adhere to specimen handling procedures
  • Document quality control activities and address any test performance issues
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and continuous education
  • Assist in training new employees and MLT/MLS students
  • Be flexible with weekend and holiday scheduling

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
  • ASCP or equivalent certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work with EKG machines and perform specimen collection
