Overview

WKBT, News 8 Now in La Crosse, Wisconsin is seeking a Chief Meteorologist to lead their First Warn Weather Team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced meteorologist responsible for delivering daily weather forecasts, managing severe weather coverage, and mentoring emerging staff members.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce and present daily weather forecasts for television and digital audiences
  • Issue warnings and direct severe weather coverage across platforms
  • Lead morning and weekend meteorologists to ensure consistency across dayparts
  • Attend daily newsroom editorial meetings to ensure the weather message remains on brand
  • Participate in promotional activities including public appearances
  • Engage with viewers in the community and across social platforms

Required skills

  • 3 to 5 years' experience as a TV meteorologist
  • Degree in meteorology
  • Demonstrated proficiency with WSI Max technology
  • Smooth and effective delivery of content for live broadcast
  • Proven command of social media platforms and best practices
  • Ability to work adjusted schedules, including weekends and overnights
  • Demonstrated skill as a leader, coach, and mentor
