Job Description

Overview

The U.S. Navy is seeking a Meteorologist, also referred to as an Oceanography Officer (OCEANO), who will serve as a geophysical expert understanding various aspects of meteorology and oceanography. This role supports fleet operations by providing timely environmental data to ensure naval freedom and safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data
  • Ensure safety of navigation and freedom to maneuver
  • Lead teams ranging from small deployable units to large commands
  • Serve as the expert at an operational command

Required skills

  • Degree in physics, physics-based oceanography, meteorology, hydrography, earth science, engineering, or mathematics
  • Completed full college calculus and calculus-based physics series
  • Ability to qualify for sea duty and a Top-Secret security clearance
  • General eligibility to serve as a Navy Officer including medical and conduct standards
