Job Description

Overview

As a Meteorologist in the U.S. Navy, you will serve as a geophysical expert applying your knowledge in meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, and geophysics. Your mission involves ensuring U.S. Navy operational success by providing essential environmental data and leading teams in various challenging roles at sea and ashore.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, prediction, exploitation, and dissemination of environmental data.
  • Ensure safety of navigation and freedom to maneuver Navy forces.
  • Lead teams ranging from small deployable units to large commands.
  • Serve as the geophysical expert at operational commands.
  • Engage in a variety of operational billets with increasing responsibility.

Required skills

  • Degree in meteorology, oceanography, physics, hydrography, earth science, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Completion of college calculus and physics series.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to meet Navy enlistment and commissioning standards.
  • Eligibility for a security clearance and sea duty.
