Overview

The Foundry Metallurgist at Waukesha Foundry plays a crucial role in supporting the production of high-quality castings by working closely with Engineering, Sales, and Operations. This position involves ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements through alloy specification, melt support, and metallurgical analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Specify material and heat treatment procedures for customer quotations and production orders
  • Prepare and revise material change documents for new alloys
  • Support development and maintenance of raw material specifications and melting procedures
  • Assist melting supervisors with melt analysis questions
  • Review daily chemistry results to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Develop new alloys or improve existing alloys
  • Process daily orders for correct alloy selection and heat treatment requirements
  • Analyze returned parts for metallurgical issues
  • Advise customers on alloy performance attributes
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Assist with supplier qualification and material audits

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant metallurgical or foundry experience
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work across departments
