Job Description

Overview

The Metallurgist at Waukesha Foundry is responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality castings by specifying alloys, providing melt support, guiding heat treatment, and conducting metallurgical analysis. This role involves collaboration with engineering, sales, and operations to meet customer and regulatory requirements while enhancing overall production quality.

Key responsibilities

  • Specify material and heat treatment procedures for customer quotations and new production orders
  • Prepare and revise material change documents for new alloys
  • Support development of raw material specifications and melting procedures
  • Assist melting supervisors with melt analysis questions
  • Review daily chemistry results to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Develop and improve alloys to meet customer needs
  • Process daily orders for correct alloy selection and heat treatment
  • Analyze returned parts for metallurgical performance issues
  • Advise customers on alloys and their performance attributes
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Assist with supplier qualification and material audits

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant metallurgical or foundry experience preferred
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Interest in continuous learning and professional growth
  • Ability to work across departments in a manufacturing environment
