Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care (POC/MLT/MLS) at WellSpan Hospitals is responsible for providing technical assistance and support in a small-format hospital environment. This role involves specimen collection, analysis, result reporting, and maintaining compliance with laboratory protocols and quality standards while ensuring patient safety and confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform complex tests in all areas of the laboratory according to protocols.
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing technical knowledge.
  • Conduct quality control and preventive maintenance on instruments.
  • Validate and deliver test results, addressing any troubleshooting and quality assurance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and maintain required documentation.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments for integrated laboratory services.
  • Assist with patient care activities such as phlebotomy and vital signs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the lab and patient care areas.
  • Attend staff meetings and perform additional assigned duties.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist by ASCP or AMT.
  • Experience in non-waived specialties of a clinical laboratory.
  • Skills in IV start and phlebotomy (training provided if necessary).
