Overview

The Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care (POC/MLT/MLS) position at WellSpan Hospitals is a PRN/Casual role focused on providing technical assistance and patient care during night shifts. This role involves the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens, result reporting, and general supervision of lab activities, all within a small-format hospital environment that emphasizes individual patient care and teamwork.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform tasks and complex tests in all areas of the laboratory according to established protocols
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing technical knowledge
  • Conduct quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments
  • Validate and report results of tests performed
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and maintain required documentation
  • Foster collaboration among clinical departments for laboratory services
  • Coordinate and perform all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities
  • Assist with patient care activities including phlebotomy, vital signs, and wound care
  • Maintain patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 6 years core lab experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT)
  • Valid State of Pennsylvania license
  • Experience with IV start and phlebotomy preferred
