Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care (POC)/MLT position is a PRN/Casual role focused on providing technical assistance and supportive patient care in a small-format hospital. This role involves collecting and analyzing laboratory specimens while ensuring compliance with protocols and regulations to deliver accurate test results.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform tests and tasks in all laboratory areas according to established protocols
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing technical knowledge
  • Conduct quality control and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and procedures
  • Validate and report results of tests performed
  • Assist with patient care activities including phlebotomy and vital signs
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and maintain required documentation
  • Collaborate with clinical departments to provide coordinated laboratory services
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in patient care areas

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 6 years core lab experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT)
  • Valid state license or ability to obtain it
  • Experience with phlebotomy and IV starts is a plus
