Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care (POC)/MLT will provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet individual patient needs in a small-format hospital setting. Responsibilities include the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens, adherence to laboratory protocols, and collaboration with clinical departments to ensure quality laboratory services.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform complex tests in various laboratory areas according to established protocols
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens
  • Conduct quality control and preventive maintenance for laboratory instruments
  • Validate and report test results, addressing troubleshooting and quality assurance issues
  • Maintain compliance with safety practices and regulations
  • Assist with patient care tasks within scope of license
  • Coordinate and perform all laboratory activities with oversight from the Laboratory Director
  • Maintain lab and patient care areas, ensuring proper supplies
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist with treatments
  • Document patient data and emergency responses

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT)
  • Experience in non-waived specialties of a clinical laboratory
  • IV start and phlebotomy experience (training provided if needed)
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance and laboratory standards
