Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care (POC/MLT/MLS) is responsible for providing technical assistance and supportive patient care in a small-format hospital. This role includes specimen collection, analysis, and reporting in compliance with established laboratory protocols and regulations. The position also involves collaboration with clinical departments to enhance laboratory services and ensure patient safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures according to established protocols.
  • Collect and process specimens while adhering to technical protocols.
  • Conduct quality control and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Validate and report test results while addressing quality assurance issues.
  • Follow safety practices related to biohazards and infection control.
  • Assist with phlebotomy, IV starts, and other patient care activities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments for integrated laboratory services.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist during procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience
  • Experience in non-waived specialties of a clinical laboratory
  • Ability to obtain General Supervisor license within 6 months of hire
  • Skills in phlebotomy and IV starts (experience not required, training provided)
