Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/MLT/POC position at WellSpan Hospitals involves providing technical assistance and supportive patient care in a small-format hospital setting. This role includes the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens, result reporting, and general supervisory responsibilities in the lab, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect and process laboratory specimens according to established protocols
  • Perform complex tests and procedures in various lab areas
  • Conduct quality control and preventive maintenance on lab equipment
  • Validate and deliver test results, assist with troubleshooting and quality assurance
  • Follow safety practices related to biohazards and infection control
  • Coordinate pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic lab activities
  • Assist with patient care activities such as phlebotomy and vital signs
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist with treatments
  • Travel to facility locations as required

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT)
  • Valid state license or ability to obtain required licenses
  • Experience with IV start and phlebotomy considered a plus
