Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist/MLT/POC position at WellSpan Hospitals involves providing technical assistance and patient care in a small-format hospital setting during night shifts. The role includes collecting and analyzing laboratory specimens while ensuring compliance with protocols and regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tasks and complex tests according to established protocols
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing technical knowledge
  • Perform quality control and preventive maintenance on instruments
  • Validate and deliver results of tests, assisting with troubleshooting and quality assurance
  • Follow safety practices and maintain required documentation for compliance
  • Assist with patient care activities including phlebotomy and vital signs
  • Coordinate all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment and perform aseptic techniques
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 6 years core lab experience
  • Act 33 and Act 73 clearances
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT)
  • Experience with IV starts, phlebotomy, and EKG initiation is a plus
