Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist (PRN Days) at WellSpan Hospitals is responsible for providing technical assistance and patient care in various laboratory settings. This role involves collecting and analyzing laboratory specimens, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and collaborating with clinical departments to maintain high standards of service.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform tasks, duties, and complex tests in all areas of the laboratory according to established protocols
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing technical knowledge
  • Conduct quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
  • Validate and deliver results of tests performed
  • Follow established safety practices including infection control and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate and perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities
  • Assist with patient care activities such as phlebotomy, EKG initiation, and vital sign monitoring
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of records
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT) or equivalent
  • Valid state license for laboratory general supervisor or ability to obtain it
  • Experience with IV starts and phlebotomy (training provided)
