Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist IV at MUSC plays a key role in performing laboratory testing and resolving discrepancies in test results. This position requires effective prioritization of tasks, maintaining effective communication, and acting as a subject matter expert within the laboratory team.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing assigned to the department
  • Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies
  • Establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously
  • Troubleshoot instruments and resolve issues
  • Maintain knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Develop, draft, and revise SOPs and training documents
  • Create validation/verification plans, test cases, and summaries
  • Maintain communication with Department and Laboratory Services personnel
  • Assist with additional support for personnel as a subject matter expert

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant discipline
  • At least five years of clinical experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent
  • Specialty certification or Master's Degree in a related field
  • Leadership experience
