Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist IV at MUSC is responsible for performing laboratory testing, resolving discrepancies in test results, and maintaining knowledge of current Standard Operating Procedures. This position requires the ability to establish work priorities and multitask, as well as providing support and expertise to the laboratory team.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing assigned to the department
  • Recognize and resolve unusual test results and discrepancies
  • Establish work priorities and manage multiple procedures simultaneously
  • Troubleshoot instruments and other issues
  • Maintain knowledge of current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Develop, draft, and revise SOPs and training documents
  • Create validation/verification plans and test cases
  • Communicate effectively with department and laboratory personnel
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the team

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant discipline
  • At least five years of clinical experience
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent
  • Specialty certification or Master's Degree in a related field
  • Leadership skills
