Overview

The Medical Technologist II-2 role at MUSC involves performing diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist in disease diagnosis and monitoring. The position includes specimen preparation, execution of routine tests, quality control, and communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing on patient samples
  • Prepare specimens for testing
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and quality control procedures
  • Analyze test results for accuracy and critical limits
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instruments
  • Communicate technical information to medical and lay persons
  • Assist with training laboratory personnel
  • Participate in continuing education
  • Recognize normal and abnormal test values

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant scientific discipline
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing and quality control
  • Proficiency in data analysis and medical terminology
  • Problem-solving skills
