Overview

The Medical Technologist II-2 role at MUSC involves performing diagnostic tests on patient samples to support physicians in diagnosing and monitoring various diseases. This position requires the preparation of specimens, analysis of test results, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory tests in a clinical setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory tests on patient samples
  • Prepare specimens for testing and analyze test results for accuracy
  • Conduct quality control and maintenance procedures
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and recognize data problems
  • Communicate technical information to both medical and lay persons
  • Assist in training laboratory personnel in routine procedures
  • Participate in continuing education programs
  • Recognize normal and abnormal test values

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant discipline
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Data analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in laboratory testing and specimen preparation
  • Team collaboration and patient interaction
