Overview

The Medical Technologist II at MUSC performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff, following established protocols and procedures. This role involves specimen preparation, operation of automated laboratory instrumentation, quality control, and ensuring compliance with safety and biohazard standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests
  • Prepare specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures
  • Operate automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Perform quality control and assurance procedures
  • Record lab results in specified systems
  • Follow required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related discipline
  • Minimum of three years advanced work experience in specialty area
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)
