Job Description

Overview

As a Medical Technologist I in the Rex Core Lab at UNC Health, you will be responsible for performing a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks to support clinical activities. You will work primarily in Hematology and Chemistry, with a schedule that requires working one weekend per month and a commitment to a 7-week training period.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects and assignments
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents
  • Train new employees and serve as a technical resource
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance
  • Conduct routine and less standardized laboratory tests
  • Prepare specimens and reagents as required
  • Report test results to healthcare providers
  • Review test results for accuracy and timely correction of errors

Required skills

  • Bachelor's of Science degree
  • Eligibility to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire
  • Certification within one year of becoming exam eligible
  • Knowledge of Hematology and Chemistry
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing and quality control processes
  • Team collaboration skills
