Job Description

Overview

The Medical Technologist I at UNC Health will be responsible for performing patient testing and administrative tasks to support clinical activities in the Rex Core Lab. This role involves working one weekend per month and requires availability for a seven-week training period.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects and assignments
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and train new employees
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the laboratory
  • Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests
  • Prepare specimens, reagents, and solutions as required
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult regarding test outcomes
  • Review test results for accuracy and timely correction of errors

Required skills

  • Bachelor's of Science degree
  • Eligibility to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire
  • Certification obtained within one year of becoming exam eligible
  • Laboratory skills including Hematology, Chemistry, and Quality Control
  • Experience with patient testing and administrative tasks
