Position Details: Medical Technologist I (Part-Time) Join Mercy and Make a Difference Every Day Mercy is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Technologist I to join our laboratory team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will perform and interpret complex laboratory testing on patient specimens, providing critical diagnostic information that directly impacts patient care. Position Summary The Medical Technologist I performs routine and specialized laboratory testing using automated instrumentation and manual methodologies. This position is responsible for analyzing patient specimens, validating and reporting results, maintaining quality standards, troubleshooting laboratory equipment, and serving as a resource to healthcare professionals and laboratory staff. Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Analysis Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing on biological specimens using established procedures.Accurately analyze, interpret, and report patient test results.Evaluate specimen acceptability and prepare specimens for referral testing when required.Recognize critical values, abnormal findings, and communicate results promptly to appropriate personnel.Correlate test data and assess clinical significance to support patient diagnosis and treatment.Investigate and resolve testing discrepancies or issues impacting result accuracy. Quality Assurance & Compliance Maintain compliance with laboratory, hospital, and regulatory standards.Perform quality control procedures and document results accurately.Monitor instrument performance and ensure the integrity of reagents and testing systems.Document corrective actions and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.Maintain accurate records, logs, and work-aid documentation. Equipment & Technical Support Perform preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.Report instrument malfunctions and coordinate repairs with service representatives when necessary.Participate in method validation, evaluation, research, and development activities.Remain current on laboratory technologies, software systems, and procedures. Collaboration & Communication Serve as a laboratory resource for clinical and non-clinical staff.Respond to inquiries regarding testing procedures, results, and interpretation.Communicate information accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.Assist with training and education of students, new employees, coworkers, and non-laboratory personnel.Stay informed on departmental communications, updates, and meeting information. Inventory & Operational Support Maintain adequate inventory of reagents, supplies, and laboratory consumables.Receive, label, store, and organize supplies appropriately.Coordinate laboratory resources to ensure uninterrupted service.Prepare work areas and ensure readiness for subsequent shifts. Safety & Risk Management Adhere to infection prevention and control standards.Follow chemical hygiene, safety, and confidentiality policies.Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.Comply with hospital-wide and department-specific safety regulations.Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities as needed. Qualifications Required Education Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
