Overview

The Medical Technologist Advanced at MUSC supports high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory setting. This role involves preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized tests, conducting quality control, troubleshooting instruments, and providing training to laboratory personnel.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare specimens for testing
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and specialized laboratory tests
  • Conduct quality control and troubleshoot quality control errors
  • Recognize and evaluate computer data problems
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and perform preventative maintenance
  • Communicate technical information to medical and lay persons
  • Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures
  • Participate in continuing education
  • Recognize normal and abnormal values
  • Model Standards of Behavior in daily interactions

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)
