Medical Support Assistant The Veterans Health Administration was seeking a Medical Support Assistant for Business Office services at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. This position provides administrative support across VISN 1 / VA New England Healthcare System services, including scheduling, patient communication, insurance updates, VISTA data entry, document scanning, patient pre-registration, clinic support, and coordination within an interdisciplinary care delivery model. Provide administrative support to increase scheduling and communication integrity across services. Collect and update insurance information from Veterans, family members, and other eligible patients. Prepare correspondence and memos as needed. Screen and receive phone calls courteously and timely. Determine the nature of requests and provide information using privacy rules and established clinic processes. Enter data accurately into VISTA. Scan applicable documents into VISTA Imaging within 24 hours of data entry. Promote Veteran registration for and use of My HealtheVet. Stock basic office supplies for the clinical area. Enter Veterans seeking emergent or urgent care and schedule appointments accurately. Use call lists to contact Veterans before scheduled visits and pre-register them. Update patient demographics. Communicate with adult and geriatric patients in a manner appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological needs. Ensure appropriate VA forms are used correctly and applicable regulations are followed. Perform additional duties or tasks assigned by the supervisor to support efficient daily operations. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. No prior experience is required for the basic Medical Support Assistant qualification standard. Must have a high school diploma, GED, proficiency certificate, or equivalent qualifying education. No certification is required. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. Selected applicant will be required to serve a one-year or two-year trial period.
