Overview

The Medical Records Coder II at Duke Health is a certified coder responsible for coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions while ensuring accuracy for optimal reimbursement. This position involves reviewing complex medical records, coordinating the work of other employees, and assisting with training and continuing education initiatives. The role supports Duke Health’s commitment to compassionate care and is fully remote for eligible states.

Key responsibilities

  • Code medical records utilizing ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
  • Review and code complex medical records for primary and secondary diagnoses.
  • Ensure accuracy of DRG/APC assignments.
  • Coordinate and review the work of designated employees.
  • Conduct audits to ensure quality of work performed.
  • Assist in developing continuing education programs on coding practices.
  • Consult with physicians to provide coding information.
  • Maintain understanding of medical record standards and regulations.
  • Abstract and compile data from medical records for reimbursement.
