Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is looking for a Medical Physicist to provide radiation physics support for the treatment of patients with cancer and other diseases requiring radiation therapy. This role involves performing clinical dosimetry duties, developing quality control policies, and ensuring maintenance of medical physics equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Participates in patient treatment planning
  • Reviews performance improvement records
  • Assists with preparation of special procedures like radioactive implants and stereotactic body radiation therapy
  • Verifies patient dose through QA checks of calculations and treatment plans
  • Participates in QA programs for radiation-producing machines
  • Assists in equipment maintenance and repair
  • Performs patient-specific dose measurements
  • Consults with dosimetrists, therapists, and staff as needed
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and technical skills
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations
  • Complies with regulations and ensures safety standards

Required skills

  • Master's degree in Medical Physics or related field
  • 2 years experience in clinical medical physics
  • Experience conducting CT performance evaluations
  • Certification in therapeutic radiological physics (preferred)
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and relevant software
