Job Description

Overview

The Medical Physicist at Ochsner Health System provides essential radiation physics support for the treatment of patients with cancer or other diseases requiring radiation therapy. This role involves performing clinical duties related to radiation oncology, developing quality control procedures, and ensuring the safe operation of therapy equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Participates in patient treatment planning
  • Reviews performance improvement records
  • Assists with preparation of special procedures including radioactive implants and stereotactic radiosurgery
  • Verifies prescribed dose through electronic and paper chart QA checks
  • Participates in QA program for radiation machines by conducting dose measurements and calibrations
  • Performs patient-specific dose measurements for treatment verification
  • Consults with dosimetrists and therapists as needed
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and competencies through professional development

Required skills

  • Master's degree in Medical Physics or related field
  • 2 years of experience in clinical medical physics
  • Documented experience in clinical CT environments
  • Certification in therapeutic radiological physics preferred
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and specific software packages
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
