Overview

The Medical Lab Specialist - Quality Management role at UNC Health involves providing technical expertise in laboratory disciplines and consulting on patient care. This position specifically focuses on Point of Care Testing at UNC Medical Center and requires flexibility in scheduling and travel within the region.

Key responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes data for laboratory or program evaluations
  • Consults with healthcare providers on patient care and program issues
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and establishes procedures
  • May monitor and provide input on personnel performance
  • Identifies capital equipment needs and anticipates laboratory requirements
  • May teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and new employees
  • Monitors daily operations of the laboratory or program
  • Reviews patient testing results, quality control, and maintenance reports

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of science credits
  • MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification
  • Three years of experience as a medical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist
  • Familiarity with CAP standards
  • Data analysis
  • Quality assurance and regulatory compliance
