Job Description

Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join the Stem Cell Lab team during the second shift. This position involves performing various routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures critical for patient care, within accredited facilities known for their innovation and commitment to quality.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex technical tasks in laboratory tests and procedures
  • Conduct quality control on Sysmex Hematology Analyzer
  • Perform thawing of cellular products at 37 C and using Dextran Albumin
  • Conduct viability testing using trypan blue or automated methods
  • Perform ABO/Rh confirmatory testing and sterility testing of cellular products
  • Process and test incoming and outgoing NMDP (Be the Match) products
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and data entries in EMMES and EPIC databases
  • Participate in documentation and filing of laboratory results and quality control worksheets
  • Utilize various laboratory equipment including biological safety cabinets and cryogenic freezers

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Cryopreservation and viability testing expertise
  • Knowledge of ABO typing and sterility testing
  • Experience with laboratory software and data entry
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques and quality control processes
  • ASCP certification preferred
