Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Senior Medical Lab Scientist to join the team at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. This role involves performing a variety of complex technical tasks in laboratory tests crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of disease, specifically during weekends.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform routine and complex tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques
  • Calibrate, maintain, align, and troubleshoot instrumentation
  • Process patient samples using appropriate identification techniques
  • Provide problem solving, troubleshooting, and consultation on test results
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Coordinate lab inspections and participate in proficiency testing
  • Monitor quality control and assurance procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety training and report incidents
  • Train new staff and provide technical guidance
  • Plan and schedule work for the lab team

Required skills

  • Bachelors of Science/Bachelor of Arts in relevant fields
  • Generalist/Specialty certification from a recognized board
  • Five years of experience in laboratory setting
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance
  • Ability to make independent decisions
