Overview

The Senior Medical Lab Scientist at Duke Health in Mooresville, North Carolina, specializes in performing various routine and complex laboratory tests to assist in diagnosing and treating disease. This role is focused on quality assurance, instrumentation maintenance, and staff training, specifically during weekends.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform a variety of routine and complex tests in clinical laboratories
  • Supervise laboratory operations and manage staff schedules
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
  • Ensure the quality of specimens through proper handling and identification techniques
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with quality control and assurance procedures
  • Train and provide technical guidance to new staff and students
  • Participate in laboratory inspections and maintain documentation for compliance
  • Collaborate with management on process improvement projects
  • Report issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Generalist/Specialty Certification by a nationally recognized board/agency
  • Five years of laboratory experience, including one year at Duke
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Experience in quality control and laboratory compliance
  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments and data analysis techniques
