Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Senior Medical Lab Scientist for weekends only at its Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. This role involves performing a variety of complex laboratory tests and ensuring compliance with quality control and safety standards to support patient diagnosis and treatment.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment
  • Coordinate and supervise laboratory tests and procedures
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
  • Handle and process patient samples according to established protocols
  • Perform analytical testing and report results
  • Monitor quality control and assurance procedures
  • Train new staff and provide technical guidance
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations
  • Participate in lab inspections and validation testing

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Generalist/Specialty certification from a recognized board/agency
  • Five years of laboratory experience, including one year at Duke
  • Experience with laboratory testing and specimen handling
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and quality control
  • Ability to independently solve problems and make decisions
