Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Senior Medical Lab Scientist for its Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. This role focuses on performing and coordinating a variety of complex laboratory tests, ensuring compliance with quality control standards and regulations, and providing technical guidance to laboratory staff. The position is part-time, working weekends only.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment of diseases
  • Supervise and coordinate laboratory testing and specimen handling
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Provide problem-solving and technical guidance to staff and interns
  • Conduct training for new employees and participate in lab inspections
  • Maintain inventory and prepare for lab inspections

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Generalist/Specialty certification by a recognized board/agency
  • Five years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Experience with clinical laboratory operations and quality control
  • Technical problem-solving and instrumentation calibration skills
