Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for the Point-of-Care Testing Lab at Duke University Hospital. This role involves performing various laboratory tests to aid in disease diagnosis and treatment, within a team dedicated to providing accurate results and enhancing patient care. The position requires participation in system-wide operations and ensuring compliance with quality control standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests
  • Handle and process patient specimens for testing
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Calibrate instrumentation according to standard procedures
  • Participate in the development of new lab tests and techniques
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students and staff
  • Communicate issues regarding assays and instrument malfunctions

Required skills

  • Experience in Point-of-Care Testing (preferred)
  • Quality assurance and quality control skills
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with clinical diagnostics and instrumentation maintenance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or medical technology field
  • Certification preferred
