Job Description

Overview

Avera Health is seeking a temporary Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) for a project supporting the EPIC transition at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This full-time role is expected to last approximately 18 months with the potential to transition into a regular MLS position upon completion of the project. The successful candidate will contribute to various laboratory activities, including system testing, validation, and training.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the laboratory during Avera's EMR transition through validation, workflow testing, and compliance activities.
  • Participate in system testing and validation to ensure accurate laboratory processes.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership and technical teams to address issues and improve processes.
  • Develop and update laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) for compliance.
  • Provide education and training for laboratory staff on new workflows and procedures.
  • Assist with go-live and post go-live support including workflow optimization and quality monitoring.
  • Perform clinical laboratory tests, ensuring adherence to protocols and standards.
  • Train new employees and provide technical guidance to team members.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical or Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related biological science.
  • MLS certification from AMT or ASCP within one year.
  • Experience with EPIC systems in a laboratory setting highly desired.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and compliance principles in laboratory operations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a team.
