Job Description

Overview

The Medical Lab Scientist in the HLA Lab at Duke University Hospital is responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in laboratory tests to obtain data for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Working on the second shift, this role is essential in providing timely and accurate testing services while ensuring compliance with quality control and assurance practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Handle specimens and use manual and automated equipment for testing.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  • Process patient samples and ensure quality material for testing.
  • Troubleshoot assay problems and report issues to senior staff.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in the development of new laboratory tests.
  • Prepare for lab inspections and maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students and staff.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
