Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for the Central Automated Lab, focusing on routine and complex laboratory tests essential for diagnosing and treating disease. This second-shift position includes responsibilities such as specimen handling, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintaining compliance with quality control practices. The role emphasizes a commitment to compassionate care and cooperation within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests
  • Handle specimens using manual and automatic equipment
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Process patient samples and ensure quality material for testing
  • Troubleshoot assay problems as directed by senior staff
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Participate in the development of new medical laboratory tests and techniques
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results
  • Attend laboratory meetings and comply with safety training

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • ASCP certification preferred
  • Laboratory skills and clinical testing experience
  • Quality control and troubleshooting abilities
  • Instrumentation calibration and analytical testing experience
