Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for their Blood Gas Lab to perform routine and complex laboratory tests critical to patient diagnosis and treatment. The role involves working every other weekend on the third shift in a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory environment dedicated to quality and innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment
  • Handle specimens using manual and automatic testing methods
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Process patient samples and ensure quality compliance
  • Troubleshoot assay problems as directed by senior staff
  • Document quality control and assurance results
  • Participate in the development of new tests and techniques
  • Attend laboratory meetings and training sessions
  • Provide technical guidance to students and interns

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques and quality control
  • Experience with analytical testing and patient sample processing
  • Ability to operate manual and computerized instrumentation
