Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join the Blood Gas Lab, working every other weekend on the third shift. This role involves performing a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in laboratory testing, aimed at obtaining data for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The Medical Lab Scientist will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment that supports the complex testing needs of patients.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tests using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Handle specimens and operate manual or computerized instrumentation.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments according to SOPs.
  • Process patient samples for testing while ensuring accuracy.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of assay problems as guided by senior staff.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in the development of new medical tests and techniques.
  • Prepare for lab inspections and maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Document quality control and assurance results.
  • Attend laboratory meetings and comply with competency testing procedures.
