Job Description

Overview

Duke Clinical Research Institute is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist, Advanced to join their Histology Lab at Duke Raleigh Hospital. This role involves performing routine and complex laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, while being part of a multidisciplinary team committed to high standards of care and innovative research.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment
  • Handle specimens and perform analytical tests
  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation according to standard operating procedures
  • Process patient samples with appropriate identification techniques
  • Troubleshoot assay problems as directed by senior staff
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Participate in the development of new medical laboratory tests and techniques
  • Review lab inspection documents and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results
  • Notify upper-level personnel of instrument malfunctions or unexpected results
  • Train new staff and provide technical guidance
  • Attend all required laboratory meetings and training sessions

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Certified Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) with two years of experience
  • Generalist or specialty certification from a recognized board
  • Experience with Immunohistochemistry and special stains
  • Laboratory skills including quality control and biomedical equipment maintenance
