Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist, Advanced for the Histology Lab at Duke Raleigh Hospital. This role involves performing routine and complex laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and adhering to strict quality control standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Handle and process patient samples to ensure quality for testing.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation according to procedures.
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Troubleshoot assay problems and communicate issues to senior staff.
  • Participate in the development of new laboratory tests and techniques.
  • Train new staff and provide instructional support to students and interns.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and training procedures.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Generalist or specialty certification by a recognized board
  • Two years of experience as a certified Medical Lab Scientist
  • Experience with Immunohistochemistry and special stains
  • Strong laboratory techniques including specimen processing and quality control
